the sales tax in santa clara is 8.5 and in san mateo you will have to pay 9%. many are seeing sales increases and in some it is now 9.5% and there are 30 sales wide state increases that went into effect on january 1st. police will be tracking down and drivers will be texting and holding cell phones. this is a look at emoryville and this is one of the places they will be looking for distracted drivers all this month. april is known as distracted driving awareness month. distracted driving killed more than 3300 people nationwide in 2011 and still a lot of people are still texting or checking the internet as they drive. >> people are getting the education part of it and they are taking chances and daring to get out there and text.

. welcome back, here is a quick look at some of the top stories we are following. san francisco police are investigating last night's shooting of two people on a muni bus. a man and woman were shot on a 14 mission bus which happened last night on mission street. the search for the shooter continues. chp is investigating a fatal crash last night in bodega bay. a woman died after crashing her car into that dry creek on highway 1. three passengers escaped the wreckage. two were treated for minor injuries. and later in colorado, prosecutors are deciding whether to seek the death penalty on james holmes.

he is accused of killing 20 people and injuring 70 others in a movie theater last july. they rejected his deal to plead guilty in he can change for taking the death penalty off the table. three people are feared dead after an alaska helicopter crashed. it happened 30 miles of anchorage. the wreckage was spotted sunday morning and the cause of the crash is still under investigation. the name of the man killed in alameda may soon be released. >> who got hit? >> now the coroner may come out with the suspect's name today. ktvu channel 2 morning news was there to capture exclusive video saturday night as deputies responded to the shooting in oakland. he allegedly dragged a deputy

during a 15 year traffic stop, the injured deputy is now out of the hospital. a gain related shooting happened over the weekend happened on wes side boulevard in atwater. a group of people snuck up on arrival gang -- a rival gang. two other males had non-life threatening injuries and police have not made any other arrests. five members of one family was killed in a novato car crash but the car is due in court. he will be facing several charges including dui and he is

accused of rear-ending a van near miss key the which is 80 miles northeast of las vegas. four adults and a 14-year-old girl were all killed. two other families members were also hurt. they were hurt after this massive pileup which happened in the southern part of virginia and that pileup shut down a major interstate and traffic was backed up for eight miles. a lot of heavy fog was reported and there was quite a bit of rain in some parts. it happened more when it was raining and it was really impossible to say whether it was the wet roads. it was a correlation, more wet rods, more accidents. let's look at the westbound bay
